Dragon Tears: Eye Drop Guide

  • Quynh-Anh held her Dragon Tears bottle. Her tiny dragon helper, Lumee, hovered nearby.

“Ready to make your dragon eyes strong?” Lumee asked with a twinkle in her eyes.

    1. Wash your hands

Dragon Tip: “Bubbles make your hands sparkle! Clean hands keep the magic safe.

    2. Get comfy! Sit down in a chair or lie back on your bed.

Sit or lie back. “Even dragons like to relax before a magic mission!”

    3. Shake the bottle

Lumee wiggles her tail. “Shake it like me!” Quynh-Anh gave the bottle a little swirl. The Dragon Tears sparkled, ready for magic!

    4. Open the bottle

“Keep the cap safe– it’s your magic shield!”

    5. Look up. Tilt your head back and gently pull down your lower eyelid

This is your dragon pocket– where the magic lands!” said Lumee.

    6. Drop it in. Hold the bottle above your eye and squeeze gently. One drop is all you need!

“Plop!” The magic has landed! Don’t let the bottle touch your eye”

Dragon Tip: make sure the tip of the bottle does not contact with the eye or any other surface

    7. Press the corner near your nose. Gently press the inside corner of your eye for a minute. This keeps the medicine inside.

This keeps the magic inside your eye,” Lumee reminded

    8. Blink slowly. Try not to blink too fast or rub your eyes.

“Slow dragon blinks, not flappy-wings blinks!”

    9. Clean up. Dab away any extra tears with a tissue and put the cap back on

Dab away extra drops and put the cap back. Lumee cheered. “You did it! Your dragon eyes are strong and sparkly!”

Congratulations! Every drop is a little act of bravery. Your dragon helper is proud, and your eyes are ready for adventure!

  • If someone else puts drops in your eyes, here’s what to expect:

    • You might feel a tiny splash in your eye. It doesn’t hurt!

    • Your eye might feel wet or tingly for a moment.

    • Your caregiver might gently press the corner near your nose. It might feel funny, but it helps the medicine stay in.

    • You might blink a little, but that’s okay!

    • When it’s done, your eye will feel cool, fresh, and ready to see adventure!

Dragon Tip: “Take a deep breath, count to three, and think of your lantern glowing bright!”

    1. Wash your hands

    2. Get your child comfortable

-Sit them on your lap or lie them on a safe surface.

    3. Shake the bottle

    4. Open the bottle

    5. Hold the child’s head gently

-One hand holds the forehead and gently tilts the head back

    6. Lift the lower eyelid

-Use your thumb or finger to pull the lower eyelid down to make a small pocket for the drops

    7. Instill the drops

-Hold the bottle above the eye and gently squeeze out the correct number of drops into the pocket. Avoid touching the eye or eyelashes with the bottle tip.

    8. Block the tear duct

-Gently press the corner of the eye near the nose for about one minute. This keeps the medicine in the eye where it works best.

    9. Calm and reassure

-Talk to your child softly, praise them, and encourage slow blinking.

    10. Clean up

-Dab away any extra drops or tears with a clean tissue. Put the cap back on the bottle.

    11. Wash your hands again

-Done! Your child’s eyes are all set

      Tips for caregiver:

      • Try doing eye drops at the same time every day to make it a routine.

      • Use toys, a favorite stuffed animal, or a story to distract younger children

      • Stay calm because kids often mimic your mood!
